The Jennifer Act , has again received a Proclamation from Governor Mike Pence for Owen County 2016 Red Ribbon Week Campaign. (*attached)

Substance abuse has had a devastating impact on families in the United States. I lost my daughter, Jennifer Reynolds to an accidental prescription overdose in 2009. According to the Centers for Disease Control, 129 people per day die of drug overdoses while admissions to treatment for prescription opiates has increased 500 percent.

This Proclamation purpose is to unify and nurture the full potential of a healthy, drug free youth.  The Jennifer Act is asking for your community support for our youth by promoting drug free lives in our communities during Red Ribbon Week (Oct.23-31).

Let's involve families, schools, churches, businesses and law enforcement agencies and support awareness, education and ongoing initiatives.

This year's theme is : YOLO Be Drug Free (You Only Live Once).

Ways Owen County can unite and take a visible stand against drugs:

1.) Wear red ribbons, Oct.23-31.

2.) Display a Red Ribbons as a symbol of intolerance towards the use of drugs.  in your business, add this quote to your digital signs and other signage: (We) support The Jennifer Act/Red Ribbon Week Oct.21-31 and promote drug free lifestyle for our youth.
